Jan Rubach was born on July 18, 1968 in Lubeck, Germany. He started to play the guitar at the age of 12. When he was 15 years old, he formed his first band , "Scratch", then he formed "Fright Night". In 1989 he formed the Trash band "Anesthesia" when he met Thomas Nack. In August 01, 1992 he joined Gamma Ray, along Thomas Nack.
